The Sega Dreamcast was an amazing piece of hardware that was well and truly ahead of its time but it met a swift and early decline, ceasing production in 2001 after only releasing in 1999. Despite that it managed to sell 9.13 million units in it's very short lifetime.

The biggest notch in the Dreamcast's belt was CODE: Veronica, a title that was for a while exclusive to the console and was a stunning graphical jump for the series. It kept the campiness of the prior games, but had another element to it that was very dark and unsettling for the overall story. An updated 'director's cut' version of CV was released on the Dreamcast in Japan exclusively called 'Complete', which added almost 10 more minutes of cutscenes in addition to other internal bug fixes, updated models and textures for certain things, and even more exposition. This version ultimately was used as the basis for the international version that became standard when it was ported to the PS2 in the wake of the DC's decline.

As part of the 5th anniversary and to provide lore continuity for players of CV, all prior games in the series save for the very original were ported to the DC as well. 2 and 3 are very interesting in specific as they are more or less a port the PC version(s) of the games due to the Windows CE OS on the Dreamcast.
