Media: Soundtracks

The Soundtracks, to me, are one of the biggest parts of the game. I adore the gameplay, for sure, but the music is what defines it and etches it into my memory most of the time. From the rolling tremolo strings of the first Tyrant battle, to the soprano opera of Alexia's Theme, to the gentler and eerier ambience of environment incidental themes. BioHazard has had a history of extremely memorable music, from a wide array of composers. Masami Ueda was the initial frontman who created many moody pieces that we all remember well, but works from others have set their own marks in the history of the series. In addition to a plethora of amazing scores, the series has also seen it's fair share of Japanese-exclusive sound dramas.

I've had the pleasure of meeting one of the arrangers, Mr. Hokoyama, during A Night in Fantasia 2009 in Sydney. Hokoyama was in charge of the arrangement and orchestration of some of the more climatic and epic pieces for BioHazard 5. I hope to one day meet Ueda and the others, to thank them for giving me music which has been a part of my life for the past 20 years.

Though I have a few double ups when it comes to some small compilation discs that were given out in special edition releases of games, the goal of soundtracks for the series is ultimately the same as my game collecting for it: Japanese release + English release where possible. The English side of the soundtracks is a lot smaller thanks to lack of release outside of Japan in physical mediums, and in fact has some rarer finds in it as a result from the early days of the franchise in the 90s.

Additionally, in the interest of archival and preservation to ensure that unreleased tracks aren't lost to the void of time, you can view our own Biohazard album releases comprising of tracks and games that never got official soundtracks here (and mirrored on plant-42).

Title: I Won't Let This End As A Dream (夢で終わらせない・・・)
Publisher: EMI Music Japan (EMIミュージック・ジャパン)
Catalogue: TODT-3706
Released: 10/04/1996
Retail: 1,000円
Scans: Front | Back | Disc

Information:
The very first official Biohazard CD released happened to be this very awesome single by Fumitaka Fuchigami. The title track was used as the ED theme for the credits in the Japanese release of Biohazard, while the second track called Icy Gaze (氷のまなざし) was used in promotional CMs and originally was the OP track for the cast introduction before it was replaced in the Director's Cut with the English track "Terror".

「夢で終わらせない」was the Japanese platinum trophy name for Revelations 2 as a nice throwback, too!

Being a single there are only four tracks, the two title tracks followed by their karaoke versions, its a very small release and its often rather obscure to find for collectors. Its incredibly 90s too, and the cheesiness of the tracks just perfectly compliment the electronic-90s style that Mikami had in mind for the original game.

And honestly, both are amazing to belt out in the car.

Title: BIOHAZARD Sound Track Remix (バイオハザード サウンドトラックリミックス)
Publisher: EMI Music Japan (ミュージック・ジャパン)
Catalogue: TVCV-5511
Released: 07/08/1996
Retail: 2,800円
Scans: Booklet | Back | Sample Page | Obi | Disk

Information:
The remix album was as close to the first official OST release for the series ever, and was the only official release of the music from BH1 in any capacity, remixed or not. All the tracks of the game were reworked and arranged, and even included Still Dawn which was the ED track for the international release of Resident Evil which would later be featured as the ED theme for BH Director's Cut in September of the same year.

This album is a bit tricky to track down in any release, as it saw localisations in Europe and the US as well, and is really neat in my opinion. Some of the arrangements made for this soundtrack also ended up being used in the Deadly Silence port such as the Save Room theme and the Vacant Lot music.

Title: BIOHAZARD ~The Machova Village Tragedy~ (バイオハザード~マコバヴィレッジの惨劇~)
Publisher: Sony Music Records (ソニー・ミュージックレコーズ)
Catalogue: SRCL-4181
Released: 31/12/1997
Retail: 2,854円
Scans: Booklet | Back | Sample Page | Disc

Information:
Machova is a somewhat dilapidated village around 40km away from Raccoon City at the northern end of the Arklay Mountains, housing only a tiny population of about fifty people. Jill Valentine, who was on leave at the time, was called back in to Raccoon City due to the grizzly murders that had been occurring -- with the most recent shocking development being that Bravo Team had disappeared. During her drive back to Raccoon City, she is involved in a car accident thanks to a runaway driver. Uninjured, but shaken, Jill leaves her car and goes to check on the other driver only to find that not only were they dead, but it looked like they had also been mauled by some kind of animal. This begins an investigation which leads her into Machova Village, where things are not what they seem.

The events of the Machova Village drama are a prelude to the original story of Biohazard, and when released was considered canonical alongside the original novel written in the The True Story Behind BIO HAZARD book where Chris tries to find where a missing friend is during the Arklay Murders. Given Zero's story had already been for the most part written in '97 and was being tweaked until '99 when the Nintendo 64 game was being developed, these events were likely meant to happen at the same time, or a few days prior, before all coming together at the Mansion Incident. This is a very neat, rare little gem in the soundtrack collection filled with a lot of suspense and drama.

Title: BIOHAZARD 2 Original Soundtrack (バイオハザード2オリジナルサウンドトラック)
Publisher: Suleputter (セルピュータ)
Catalogue: CPCA-1001
Released: 21/01/1998
Retail: 2,100円
Scans: Slip Cover | Booklet | Back | Sample Page | Obi | Disc

Information:
The very first release of this came with a special corrugated slip cover with a RPD dog tag embedded into it. Each tag had a unique number, and I believe it was the first 5,000 units that shipped which had these dog tags. My tag is R.P.D.-04401.

The soundtrack is all on one disc, containing 31 tracks which is the majority of major themes in the game. The rest of the incidental music was released in late 1998 on the BioHazard 2 Complete Track OST.

Title: BIOHAZARD Drama Album ~The Fate of Raccoon City~ Vol.1 (バイオハザード~運命のラクーンシティ~ Vol.1)
Publisher: Suleputter (セルピュータ)
Catalogue: CPCA-1004
Released: 21/02/1998
Retail: 2,520円
Scans: Booklet | Back | Sample Page | Disk

Information:
Following on from the original Machova Village drama album, the Fate of Raccoon City series follows various groups of survivors during events which transpire in the two months leading up to the viral outbreak in Raccoon City. Like the Machova Village album, the three albums released in this series were at the time considered canonical to the events; with the release of Biohazard 2 HD Remaster in the pipes the fate of these side-stories are unknown.

Volume 1 follows the story of Jane and Jim, two Raccoon City High students, who end up investigating the destroyed ruins of the Mansion after Jane and her mother, Anita, are attacked by Cerberus after sheltering in the ruins from a storm that struck while they were out for a walk through the forest.

Title: BIO HAZARD SYMPHONY Op.91 Crime and Punishment (バイオハザードシンフォニー)
Publisher: Suleputter (セルピュータ)
Catalogue: CPCA-1010
Released: 21/08/1998
Retail: 2,100円
Scans: Front, Back etc

Information:
This is an interesting soundtrack. It features solely the works done for the Director's Cut Dual Shock Ver. of the games. Some of the pieces are a bit hit-and-miss when you listen to them on their own, but combined with the visuals of the game really did allow for a different experience. There are two discs with this, the first being the soundtrack with its 38 tracks, and a second which contains sound effect and character voice tracks. The voice tracks are very interesting, as the third one contains some of the scrapped Japanese VA work for the game that had been done in 1996 before they'd ultimately been scrapped by the team.

Though the soundtrack has a majority of the songs used in the Dual Shock version of the game, there are still tracks that don't see the light of day on this disc. Yes, that includes the infamous Ass Trumpet Basement theme.

My favourite piece from this OST is Humanity's Demise, the opening organ piece which actually doesn't make it into the game itself. The full track name according to the booklet is 「ロ短調人類終焉ミサ曲」which translates to Humanity's Demise, Mass in B Minor. Missa, often mistranslated as Misa, is the latin word for mass.

Title: BIOHAZARD 2 Complete Track (バイオハザード2コンプリートトラック)
Publisher: Suleputter (セルピュータ)
Catalogue: CPCA-1011
Released: 21/08/1998
Retail: 2,100円
Scans: Front, Back etc

Information:
The cover of this is incredibly creepy, as the ear motif on it is actually embossed, giving it proper depth and texture. This soundtrack actually features 2 discs: the first contains the 42 tracks absent from the initial BioHazard 2 soundtrack, the second is a mini-disc which contains 8 sound effect tracks. Despite most of the missing tracks from BioHazard 2 being put onto this, there were still 6 vital tracks which managed to miss the cut (likely due to the fact that the 42 tracks are already pushing the limits of the CD). In addition to this, all of the Extreme Battle music was remixed, rather than having the original versions on the disc.

There is an archival release of the missing tracks here.

Information:
This is a strange, somewhat rare single released under Suleputter. It contains 4 tracks, which feature partial melody remixes of BioHazard 2 combined with sound-effects and voices from the game. Beast from the East contains actual recording by the VA for Chris Redfield at the time, Michael G., containing some rather disturbing messages behind them.

The remix tracks feature samples and motifs of Prologue, Raccoon City, and T-A.

This is possibly the coolest version of this remix album I have ever seen - it was the only Biohazard soundtrack released on vinyl until Biohazard 7's special 'Go Tell Aunt Rhody' release from e-Capcom in 2017, and now Laced records have been distributing the soundtracks. Side A has the two Beast of the East remixes, while Side B has the I'm Really Mad and BIOHAZARD tracks.

Title: BIOHAZARD 3 Original Soundtrack (バイオハザード3オリジナルサウンドトラック)
Publisher: Suleputter (セルピュータ)
Catalogue: CPCA-1032~3
Released: 1999
Retail: 2,940円
Scans: Front, Back etc

Information:
BioHazard 3 has one of the largest single-release soundtracks of the classic games, second to CODE: Veronica, managing a nice 85 tracks across two discs. It's also a pretty unique shelf item for me, since the case is so huge in comparison to the standard jewel cases the rest of the soundtracks are in. BioHazard 3 managed to score a Playstation case for its release, allowing for a good sized booklet to be put in there with interviews and thoughts about the soundtrack by the composers.

There are also two versions of this OST in existence. The first print of this was listed under CPCA-1030~1, featured a black-background on the cover, and came with a cloth bag and t-shirt. I own the standard release, as the limited is, surprise surprise, limited. There is no difference in the actual tracks between both releases.

Information:
In 1999, the New Japan Philharmonic held a concert featuring the works of BioHazard. This included new pieces from BioHazard 3, which at the time had only been released a month before. It was also the only BioHazard symphonic concert held in the history of the series. This has some really nice arrangements of the tracks, including a full orchestra version of The Ultimate Bio-Weapon Medley which is to die for.

A definite must-get for anyone who has an appreciation for the music of the games.

Catalogue: CPCA-1052~3
Released: 19/02/2000
Retail: 2,100円
Scans: Booklet | Sample Page | Obi | Disc 1 | Disc 2

Information:
The initial CODE: Veronica OST release managed to cram 70 tracks onto one disc, with the second disc featuring jingles, voice, and SFX tracks as a bonus. I really enjoy the disc screen print featuring the Redfields in their choice colours too, it's rather striking and makes the fact the CD doesn't come with a back plate for the case just as interesting showing off the discs in all their glory.

Scans: Booklet | Sample Page | Obi | Disc 1 | Disc 2

Information: The Complete version of the CODE: Veronica soundtrack collective. This OST racks in an impressive 94 tracks across two discs. This OST has been a personal favourite of mine for many years, with great atmospheric pieces and thrilling battle themes, all of which are completely and uniquely CODE: Veronica.

To me, CODE: Veronica's soundtrack is one of the pinnacles of the series, only surpassed by Biohazard 2, with clever use of atmosphere, thematics, and drama.

Information:
Gun Survivor 4 has a wickedly good OST, but the oddball for it is the ED song which was heavily used for promotional videos and the staff roll, which was RIZE's track GunShot. It got a pretty awesome shot of the 091 Tyrant for the main cover, and the disc features two other tracks from the artist.

Pretty catchy! It's kind of a shame the original track that was penned for the staff roll wasn't used, but it thankfully got a release of its own.

Title: BIOHAZARD Outbreak Original Soundtrack (バイオハザード アウトブレイク オリジナルサウンドトラック)
Publisher: King Records (キングレコード株式会社)
Catalogue: KICA-1324
Released: 25/02/2004
Retail: 2,730円
Scans: Slipcase Front | Slipcase Back | Booklet | Sample Page | Obi | Disc

Information:
The soundtrack to Outbreak is something utterly wondrous with its sweeping orchestral opening, subtle series flashbacks via leitmotifs and even full on arrangements, and a recurring melody for the series that defined it as its own. It also was the first title in the series to feature actual orchestral music from a live studio, with other series titles relying on synth and samples alone.

The soundtrack for Outbreak is notoriously hard to find -- if found with its slipcase and obi it often calls for a very high price. It also was very heavily bootlegged on places like eBay, making official releases even rarer again due to the saturation of the bootlegs. New Years auction sale perusing saw me nab this after 5+ years of actively hunting for a copy that was actually under $150 for a change (and $50 was a steal for me, honestly!)

The soundtrack only covers tracks from the first Outbreak game, with none of File 2's tracks seeing official OST release.

Information:
Limited to only 3,000 in the world, the Sound Chronicle Best Box is highly sought after. It's also one of the most bootlegged albums you can find for Biohazard on the cesspool that is eBay next to Outbreak's OST. Released as a commemorative OST, the box contains a whopping six discs with excerpts from Biohazard 2, Biohazard 3, the newly released Gamecube remake of Biohazard, Ø, and Biohazard 4. It should be noted that this is the only soundtrack out in Japan officially with tracks from Ø or Rebirth that aren't remixed. The box also comes with a booklet which features interviews and insights from the large roster of composers the series has had over the years.

This box is seriously black. Black everywhere. It's very difficult to keep it beautifully pristine outside of handling it with gloves due to this. The jewel cases for the games are even solid black, and instead of featuring an insert for the disc inside, it is instead printed on the top plastic case in metallic silver. All in all, a very beautiful and rare collection piece that I am honoured to have. Just recently, it was reissued for the 15th anniversary, with no changes, asides from adding more of them to the roster. As of the time of writing, I do not know how many there now exist.

This was a very special gift from Kyu.

Information:
Perhaps the most bizarre release in terms of OST for the series yet. Biohazard 4's full two disc soundtrack was only available through this special book, which not only has notes from the game director in it, but is a complete 48 page artbook for the development of the game. All other iterations and re-issues of the Biohazard 4 soundtrack tend to gloss over a number of ambience tracks that are otherwise only found on this specific release of the OST.

Catalogue: RRCY-21165
Released: 22/02/2006
Retail: 2,100円
Scans: Booklet | Back | Insert | Sample Page | Obi | Disc

Information:
The glorious sole reason for having this CD in my Biohazard collection is for track 6 on this disc, which it titled 'Heroes Never Die'. According to the write up by sanodg in the booklet:

This is a vocal arrangement of the save room music for use in the staff roll. Due to a number of circumstances this recording only ended up in the European version of the game*. Raj Ramayya of The Beautiful Losers, who also is the voice of the game's hero, was in charge of the vocals. His sweet voice matches perfectly with the music.

I find it really interesting that it's said European versions are meant to have this song, but not a single copy I've seen has it unless it made it onto a very, very early pressing of some discs, but it's more likely it was just cut entirely. A shame as it's really gorgeous!

Released: 19/12/2007
Retail: 3,000円
Scans: Front, Back etc

Information:
Umbrella Chronicles has a soundtrack that is quite different compared to the rest of the gaming series. The soundtrack is, in essence, a major compilation track run featuring many remixed and re-realised pieces from previous Biohazard games. A lot of the tracks feature combined genre, mixing elements of electronica with orchestra, and the likes. Certainly very fitting for the gameplay style. I wish the soundtrack had longer cuts of some of its 100% original pieces, though, such as the main theme for the game which is longer than the OST cut. All in all, a good OST.

Information:
Well this is... a weird one. A bit of history for you: Pachinko, or Pachi-Slot machines are a gambling machine over in Japan. There are Pachi-Slot parlours everywhere, in every city. In 2006, a BioHazard themed one was released, and they actually released the soundtrack for it physically.

Its got some pretty awesome tracks on it composed by Satoshi Ise. Some of them honestly sound like they would have fit right into the Umbrella Chronicles scheme of things, and some of them are genuine remixes or re-synths of the original tracks from the 1996 game. In fact, the track Unknown Fear I uses a Beta/Unused piece of music! How's that for left field?

Information:
I'm quite fond of the soundtrack to Degeneration. The soundtrack features the full orchestral score for the film, in addition to the film edit of Guilty, the credits theme. The style of the soundtrack calls to mind Umbrella Chronicles, with the occasional mix electronica-orchestra track driving the score. This was a lovely and lucky score in Book-Off in Ikebukuro for me while travelling in 2011. Go figure, the only Biohazard soundtrack they had in their section and it was one I was missing. The back of the case has some fracture damage, but its not that hard to replace despite it being a gargantuan sized case (its a PSX case, much like Biohazard 3's case.)

The second disc to this is a DVD, featuring trailers from Degen as well as a couple of the games in the series.

Information:
The Select Track for Biohazard 5 is a really nice e-Capcom exclusive disc that was only available to those who bought the limited edition version of the game. While the normal OST for Biohazard 5 has digital versions of the key battle tracks, the full orchestra performances of them are only available on this disc. The live orchestrations for the game were arranged by Wataru Hokoyama, whom as mentioned before I have been lucky enough to have met before, and really set the dramatic, bombastic energy some of those fights had.

Including re-releases in Sound Chronicles II and even on vinyl, these non-digital versions remain pretty much exclusive to just this release.

Information:
Biohazard 5 was an interesting time for the series, and a game that came with a lot of divisive opinions and thoughts within the community. Commercially it was quite the success, and part of that success came from the atmosphere painted in some parts of it, something which I feel the soundtrack helped quite a lot. There are quite a lot of atmospheric tracks for quieter portions of the action-horror game, but a good share of energetic tracks as well.

The boss themes of the game were only released as digital sample renditions on the official soundtrack, while the fully orchestrated ones were released on the Biohazard 5 Select Track.

Title: BIOHAZARD The Darkside Chronicles Original Soundtrack (バイオハザードダークサイドクロニクルズオリジナルサウンドトラック)
Publisher: Suleputter (セルピュータ)
Catalogue: CPDA-10213~4
Released: 27/01/2010
Retail: 3,000円
Scans: Front, Back etc

Information:
66 of the most amazing tracks. Darkside's score is second to none, and features some of the best arrangements of classic tracks from Biohazard 2 and CODE:Veronica out there, in addition to beefing them out with original tracks for both the South American sections of the games, and new battle thematic work for the Birkin forms and Steve. When I first heard the new rendition of Alexia's battle themes I legit started to cry.

I suppose the only downside/fallback to the soundtrack is that not all of the orchestral pieces are actually orchestra. The digital tracks are easy to pick against the full orchestra counterparts, but its a small, SMALL detractor, and really it ends up just making an interesting comparison. Spread across two discs, and recorded in such high quality, this is one to not miss.

Retail: 8,190円

Information:
Released as a commemorative OST for the 15th anniversary, the box contains a whopping six discs with the full Umbrella Chronicles, and Darkside Chronicles soundtracks, in addition to having a best track selection from Biohazard 5, Biohazard 5 Alternate Edition, and The Mercenaries 3D. While its nice to have a rehash of the Chronicles soundtracks, its superb to have the final pieces of the digital version puzzle with the Bio5 tracks (Chris's Arrival, Pray) in addition to most of the Alternative Edition tracks. Being given an insight into the frenzy of Mercenaries 3D early is quite a treat, as well. Lots of brilliant pieces on this, and I'm really glad I own this.

Much like the very original Sound Chronicle, the box is black meets black with a side of black. Instead of silver flashing in the text and printed onto the plastic of the jewel cases, we've got a very sparkly gold. Just as much a fingerprint and dust magnet as its predecessor.

This was obtained with help from my good friend Gin!

Title: Biohazard Revelations Unveiled Edition Special Arrange Track (バイオハザードリベレーションズ アンベールドエディション スペシャルアレンジトラック)
Publisher: Suleputter (セルピュータ)
Catalogue: CPDA-10077
Released: 23/05/2013
Retail: 3,900円
Scans: Slipcase Front | Slipcase Back | Insert Front | Insert Back | Obi | Disc

Information:
This unique disc is a bit hard to come by -- it was released as an e-Capcom exclusive for the Unveiled Edition when it first came out and could only be gotten via pre-orders of the game from their store. It also later came bundled from e-Capcom if you bought the PS3 The Best edition of the game, which had another bonus with it in the form of the Biohazard Archives Chris & Jill special file. The price in the above RRP is from Capcom's initial release of it.

The soundtrack came with a leather BSAA card case as well, because why not.

I'm not the biggest fan of the arrangements of Deep Sea and Falling Chorus on this single, mostly because the faux-childlike femme vocals do nothing for the power of the originals, but the arrangements of Revelations and O Vendetta Di Dio are stunning. Very neat little set of mixes.

Publisher: Capcom (カプコン)
Catalogue: CPCS-01103
Released: 20/01/2015
Retail: Not For Sale
Scans: Cover | Disc

Information: In comparison to the, at the time, only other official release of the 2002 Remake soundtrack which had 44 tracks, the HD soundtrack release clocks in at 60 and fills the gap in regards to missing tracks. There is a downside to this release and that is knowing that the sound team had issues with the HD release in terms of lost tracks from their assets library requiring them to source them elsewhere, combined with issues stemming from the codec which resulted in some tracks being played too fast.

Still is nice having them collated on a disc, despite its issues.

Information:
Though this is super technically a DVD, and only has the video of the full MV mixed with scenes from Revelations 2, it was the only release for this track outside of Dir En Grey's actual albums; no special single like RIZE or LAW's. Details on how to obtain the DVD are as below:

To celebrate the release of the Music Clip Collection Blu-ray & DVD “Average Sorrow” on April 1, 2015 and in tie with the special bonus campaign launched via the Special Limited Version “ARCHE” (SFCD-0136~138/SFCD-0139~141), we will be giving out a special gift to all who send in their application to us. For those who would like to receive the gift please check the flyer that is included in the Initial Limited Version Music Clip Collection Blu-ray & DVD “Average Sorrow” for details.

People had to send in an application from their Average Sorrow release to possibly get this in return through the post. Pretty cool.

Title: Biohazard Revelations 2 Special Soundtrack (バイオハザード リベレーションズ2 スペシャル・サウンドトラック) [CD42]
Publisher: Capcom (カプコン)
Catalogue: CPDA-10091~3
Released: 16/05/2015
Retail: 8,990円
Scans: Cover | Disc 1 | Disc 2 | Disc 3

Information:
This glorious soundtrack suffers the fate of being locked behind a rather pricey e-Capcom purchase to obtain it. One of the last major physical OST releases the series has seen, the Revelations 2 soundtrack spans across three whole discs to encompass every piece of music used in the game along with a special selection of tracks from previous iterations or builds that didn't make the final cut. There is only a handful tracks we know of that didn't make the cut on the official OST: the RAID edits of Up The Pace, Afflicted 3, Kierling 2, Siren, and Determination, along with the island anthem that plays in the Kierling.

Revelations 2 is rather special to me, so it's nice to have this finally in my collection.

Catalogue: CPDA-10101~2
Released: 23/06/2016
Retail: 5,990円
Scans: Insert Front | Insert Back | Disc 1 | Disc 2

Information:
For as abysmal a release this game was, it comes with a pretty awesome soundtrack that is all pumping for the more action-oriented nature of the game, but with homages to its series roots in some key tracks.

The only way to get this soundtrack was to purchase the Biohazard Umbrella Corps Download Code Version box in stores -- the name of which is somewhat ironic given the game never had a physical release even in Japan. It should be noted the code that comes in this pack only was usable until the 30th of November 2016 which means the product is no longer even in circulation in stores.

Information:
Not the most remarkable soundtrack in the world, but still a soundtrack from the series nonetheless. Being a "From and Inspired" soundtrack, there is a huge run of mainly rock/metal music on the disc with only a smattering of Manson's score work (and none of Kevin Manthei's), which is a shame, but rectified later when they released a score-only soundtrack.

This was a gift from ChaosCroc that I treasure quite a lot.

Information:
A compilation soundtrack featuring a mish-mash of various track from Resident Evil through to Resident Evil 4. Information:
A surprising but very welcome release! 2018 saw the first physical press of the Vendetta soundtrack from the USA, of all places, with a monster double LP that is spread across two vinyl. There were two variants released by Madison Gate Records, a super limited pressing called the A-Virus Limited Edition that was for sale on Spacelab9 only and limited to 200 copies, and a general pressing called the G-Virus edition that is sold on ThinkGeek.

This is the much more limited A-Virus version, which sports a yellow, red, and green splatter effect in the vinyl. I rather love the soundtrack of Vendetta and was pretty bummed out that it, until now, had only been distributed digitally.

Title: Resident Evil Deluxe Double Vinyl (レジデント・イービルDXダッブルビニール)
Publisher: Laced Records
Catalogue: LMLP024
Released: 02/04/2019
Retail: $64.00
Scans: Cover | Insert | Side A | Side B | Side C | Side D

Information:

The first release from Laced Records as part of a series, this Resident Evil vinyl marks the first time the 2002's remake soundtrack has been released outside of Japan in an official capacity. As a bonus, it's very specifically the Sound Chronicle remake disc, which is why the LP clocks in at only 44 tracks. In contrast, the disc for Remake HD has 60 tracks. The reason that having the 44 track release mastered onto vinyl instead of the HD versions is because the sound team had issues with the HD release in terms of lost tracks and issues with the codec which resulted in some tracks being played too fast, even if it did mean we got official releases of missing tracks not seen on the Sound Chronicle disc.

This is the standard edition run, which features 180g heavyweight done in black. There are two limited versions, with the first press limited being on 180g heavyweight smokey blue and black, and the reissue limited in 180g blue; I actually prefer the standard edition mostly because the disc art reminds me of things like the slide cartridges from the laboratory section of the game. The double LP features a gatefold sleeve which has stunning art by Boris Moncel with gorgeous colour contrast.

Publisher: Laced Records
Catalogue: LMLP025
Released: 02/04/2019
Retail: $64.00
Scans: Cover | Insert | Side A | Side B | Side C | Side D

Information:
With all 31 tracks of the original soundtrack here, the second release from Laced brings us the sounds of Biohazard 2 into the world of vinyl. Side C is easily my favourite just because it begins with both Marshalling Yard tracks, but I am very biased when it comes to the Biohazard 2 tracks that came over from the original 1.5... listening to the atmospheric tracks altogether in such a unique way is really wonderful.

This is the standard edition run, which features 180g heavyweight done in black. The limited versions were a 180g heavyweight smokey red and black and a 180g red for the reissue; I actually prefer the standard edition because the disc art is based on the ink ribbons used in-game, so the black fits. The double LP features a gatefold sleeve, which again has stunning art by Boris Moncel.

Title: Resident Evil CODE Veronica X Limited Edition Deluxe Double Vinyl (レジデント・イービルコード:ベロニカ-完全版- DXダッブルビニール限定版)
Publisher: Laced Records
Catalogue: LMLP042X
Released: 02/01/2020
Retail: $64.00
Scans: Cover | Insert | Side A | Side B | Side C | Side D

Information: Laced Records have been having a great time doing releases for the series, and their CODE: Veronica release is absolutely stellar -- featuring 46 tracks from the Complete version soundtrack, it has a great mix of ambience and action, and hearing some of the more emotional tunes combined with the warmth that comes with vinyl just takes the cake for me. Of note is Murderous Eyes over on Side C, it uses the timing of the NTSC release but has the extra choral octave that was only heard in the PAL version, yet no other tracks mastered for the vinyl have any other PAL quirks. I had hopes that possibly then the other European exclusive tracks had made it onto an official release, but sadly it is the only outlier in comparison to the original soundtracks released.

This is specifically the limited edition run, which features 180g heavyweight done in an apt t-Veronica 'Opaque Green.' The standard version's only difference is that it is simply done on 180g heavyweight black. The double LP features a lovely gatefold sleeve, which features stunning art of the suspended doll in the Ashford's manor on Rockfort. Once again Boris Moncel delivers, but I know I am 100% biased when I say that the CV one has the best artwork so far. What can I say? I am an absolute sucker for any art of Alexia!

The disc art is also really stunning - I straight gasped when I saw the gold lugers for A/B.
