The Sony PlayStation. One of the largest pioneers in the 32 bit era during the fifth generation of home consoles, the PlayStation came out of left field after a botched deal with Nintendo had Sony decide to go ahead with Ken Kutaragi’s console vision. Launching in Japan during 1994, and 1995 for the rest of the world, it saw a reign of 11 years officially before it was discontinued in 2005. It was the first home console to sell over 100 million units.

Soon after its release the console became home to this now-beloved franchise and paved the way for Survival Horror in full, leading to other great titles such as the Silent Hill series from Konami, and the continuation of Human Entertainment’s Clock Tower series. Biohazard overall saw 7 releases and enhanced editions over 5 years on the system, 14 including English localised versions, building a world and lore that is still heavily entrenched in even the most recent titles as of the time of writing. This was the birthplace of the series after all, and where many fans started their journey with characters that still feature in the games to this day.
