Information:
The one, the only, the very beast that started it all and brought along with it a series that has lasted over 20 years. The original game is utterly iconic in the industry, and infamous in parts due to some questionable dialogue decisions, and paved the way for the series today. The original Japanese release has a number of differences when compared to the western releases, from small things like auto aim to assist in the fixed camera setting, to different damage tables.

The Japanese release also began a trend of what is called True Canon, as localisation work of the series from here on out sometimes strayed a bit too far from the source material—a trend that is fairly normal unfortunately for a lot of media in the 90s and 2000s. Going back to this version of the game with Japanese knowledge under my belt was really eye-opening for the different tone and nuances in the text. I'm rather fond of this copy, I love how subtle and eerie the lab artwork is for the cover vs. Action Hero Chris Redfield on the western releases.
