Sentinels of the Universe was the planned sequel to Defender of the Future by Appaloosa which sadly never came to light thanks to SEGA pulling out of the hardware market, making the Dreamcast obsolete. Interestingly, the game was never officially announced at all—the existence of the game is known purely from video game preservationists and dev team comments and interviews over the years. From what we do know: the game was being developed in 2001 and was only about 30% complete at the time the project was canned, and people digging through the prototype builds we do have showcased things such as a model for Trellia, and creatures like polar bears existing for ice levels. It is a shame that the sequel never saw the light outside of these builds; while I prefer the original timeline/story from the Mega Drive series of games compared to Defender of the Future, it still would've been amazing to see further worldbuilding for the Defender of the Future timeline.
RetroGameLab have released reproduction prints of the February 19 2001 prototype build, stylised for the PAL and NTSC-U market, which are the two copies showcased here. Perhaps one day I might help preservation with finding my own dev builds or another GD-Katana dev kit (I mean, you never know, it could happen.) If I ever do they'll be showcased on the Demo & Promotional page, but given the production of Sentinels seemed to stop the month the Dreamcast commercially died I suspect we may have all builds known presently archived on Hidden Palace.
