This is a niche, wonderful piece of Ecco history. This is a store promotional poster which was used to advertise the localised release of the first game in Japan in 1993, which would've been distributed to retailers to use for window displays, or in store to promote the latest release of the week/month. My poster is in immaculate condition given its age — it looks like if it was ever displayed in store it might have been in a frame, as there are no pinholes or tape marks on it; it also potentially could've been a spare in the store inventory that was never used. Ecco came out in Japan the same year that the Mega Drive 2 revision went to market, which is why the poster uses the swish new logo for that revised system alongside the traditional red and green MD logo.
One of these recently sold on the Japanese market over the 2025-2026 new year for 51,449円; I'm both amazed and mortified. This has been a crown jewel in my collection for the last 10+ years where I picked it up for significantly less... Being Japanese B2 size it is a formidible 515mm x 728mm.
